PREVIEW: Sylvie – Light from the Forest

Wednesday 5 September 2018

Join us to mark the launch of a new range of lights celebrating the beauty and versatility of wood. Designed and built by hand in nearby Semley, Sylvie lights are made from sustainably sourced hardwoods such as oak, ash and walnut. Delicate veneers are curved round and lit from behind to bring out the graceful lines of the woodgrain while casting a glorious radiance round the room. A splash of colour in the form of dyed veneers adds another vibrant dimension.

Sylvie is a collaboration between husband and wife team Dom and Arabella Parish who met as furniture design students. In 2000 they started up Wardour Workshops, designing and making bespoke fine furniture with a strong commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Last year, inspired by the translucent beauty of ash veneer, Arabella designed her first light, combining a single sheet of veneer and a rectangle of brass. That has since grown into a range of lights, all designed with a regard for simplicity of form and made with attention to detail and finish.

The full range of lights will be available online at from the beginning of September and on display at Messums Wiltshire until 9th September as part of our Material Wood series of exhibitions and events.
